Gender predictions are all about trying to guess if your baby is a boy or a girl
It’s so exciting to find out you’re pregnant, and almost right away most women want to know if they’re having a boy or a girl. But even with today’s advanced technology, your Dr. will probably make you wait until you hit about 18-20 weeks before they’ll do the anatomy scan.
(Now there are some places that can do 3D ultrasounds and you can find out your baby’s sex around 14 weeks. They’re local and you can find them by doing a google search, but not usually covered by your insurance. So pros and cons, right?
I really wanted to do this! I was so ready to, but it was Christmas time and we were so busy time just slipped away from us and before we knew it I was at my 18 week Dr.’s appointment and then they scheduled the anatomy scan for my 20-week mark. So I just waited until I was 20 weeks to find out for sure.
BUT . . .
Here are some gender predictions you can try now in your first trimester
Or the beginning of your second trimester.
Please Note: Even though I ended up waiting until my 20-week mark, TRUST me I was sooo impatient! I wanted to know if I was going to have a girl or boy right away! So I’ve tried all of these gender predictions. And let me tell you I wanted a girl so bad! And spoiler alert, we’re having a girl!
So let’s get to it I’ll let you know which ones were true for me and which ones weren’t. As a disclaimer everybody is different so don’t go buying pink or blue paint just yet. The most accurate way to know if you’re having a boy or a girl is by the anatomy ultrasound.
Baby’s Heart Rate
If your baby’s heart rate is above 140 then it’s probably a girl. Research shows that girls tend to have faster heart rates.
For me it was:
TRUE!
I had my first Dr.’s appointment at 9 weeks and my little one’s heart rate was 173 bpm. The next couple of appointments it was around 150-160.
The Ramzi Theory
This theory is most accurate between 6 and 8 weeks and it’s based on where the placenta is located which you’ll be able to see when you get an ultrasound done. So if you’re interested in this theory you can ask your ultrasound tech which side the placenta is on. I had my ultrasound at 9 weeks I was afraid it wouldn’t be as valid since I wasn’t in the suggested time frame. But for me this theory was:
TRUE!
How it works:
A placenta on the right = BOY
A placenta on the left = GIRL
This photo is my ultrasound at 9 weeks so if you’re able to go at 6 weeks don’t freak out that your little one doesn’t look this developed, they grow like crazy!
The original photo is the bottom right one. It was easy for me to tell which side the placenta was on if you’re not sure just as your US tech as they have a trained eye.
Ring on a string
This gender prediction sounds like something they would do in the renaissance times but it’s been scary accurate! I’ve asked other moms who have kids if this worked for them and it’s been 100% true.
For me it was:
TRUE!
How it works:
Take a strand of your hair (or a piece of string or thread) and loop it around your wedding ring (or any ring will do) then hold one hand out fingers spread apart. Then move the string above your fingers, start with the thumb, trace the outside of your hand going between each of your fingers. When you get to your pinky go back and trace your fingers going the other way (don’t let the string touch your hand). Once you get back to your thumb, hold the string above the middle of your hand.
If it swings back and forth it’s a BOY
If it swings in a circle it’s a GIRL
If you want to get really freaked out you can repeat this process until the ring just stops when you hold it over your hand. However many times it swings or circles will tell you how many kids you’ll have and if they’ll be a boy(s) or a girl(s).
For me it was:
TRUE!
Another version of this is instead of tracing your hand you just hold the string above your belly.
If it swings back and forth it’s a BOY
If it swings in a circle it’s a GIRL
Chinese Calander
This is an ancient Chinese calendar which can predict your baby’s gender depending on your age and what month you conceived in.
Baby Center has a calendar you can plug this information into to see what your results are.
For me it was:
FALSE!
Baking Soda Test
It’s best if you do this one first thing in the morning, collect a sample of urine, then add the same amount of baking soda to the sample (honestly I think I just did a spoon full or two I was still super nausea when I did the test and couldn’t really look when I was adding the baking soda).
If it fizzes it’s a BOY
If it doesn’t fizz it’s a GIRL
For me it was:
TRUE!
Mine didn’t fizz at all. But there are some factors that can change the results: your ph level, your diet, if you’re hydrated or not, the time of day you do this test. (I did it at night, but it was still true for me).
The way you’re carrying
If you’re carrying high it’s a GIRL
If you’re carrying low it’s a BOY
For me it was:
FALSE!
Even at 25 weeks she is still sitting super low, and boy does she love to kick my bladder!
